GCN's guide to the Alpe D'Huez - one of cycling's epic climbs that has seen its fair share of battles in the Tour de France over the years. Subscribe to GCN on YouTube: http://gcn.eu/SubscribeToGCN Tom and Matt rode the Alpe d'Huez to get a feel for what the climb is really like. It's famous for its role in the Tour de France, with every hairpin being named after a winner on the climb. On our way up we visited Dutch Corner and experienced the full range of Alpine weather conditions. Tom and Matt's time was 1 hour 5 minutes and 3 seconds. If the truth be known I owe a lot to the rockstar ascent that is Alpe d’Huez, along with its equally impressive neighbours the Glandon and Galibier. Back in 2003 it was the lure of these legendary peaks that gave me my first real taste of the mountains as I nervously lined up for La Marmotte not really knowing what I was getting myself into. I remember rolling into Bourg d’Oisans and feeling my stomach somersaulting with fearful excitement at the gargantuan size of the mountains surrounding me. You could feel the energy they possessed, like the walls of a Roman amphitheatre staring down at a gladiator about to go into combat. I’ll never forget that moment, eventually carving my way up the 21 bends to the summit of Alpe d’Huez. We’ve come a long way since then but this is, and always will b...

My name is Ralf and I am addicted to bicycle touring :) On my fully loaded touring bicycle I travelled 2.747km from Riesa, Germany to Nice in France crossing the 10 highest passes of the Alps accumulating over 45.000m of altitude. I cycled in July and August when the passes were open and free from snow. The nights I spent mostly in my tent, sometimes I took cheap accomodations when I needed to rest or when I was in a city. I love bicycle touring and more videos like this will follow. Stay tuned. GO OUT AND CYCLE !!! If you have questions, don't hesitate to write me, I'll answer. I hope...

During the Drop and Roll Tour, Danny MacAskill and his team visited some of the highlights along the Alpe Adria Trail, a path designed exclusively for hikers and not accessible by bikes. The team had to be incredibly creative and ride whatever they could find along the 750 km hiking trail, which leads from the Alps to the Adriatic Sea. My run at Megavalanche Alpe d'Huez, the craziest race in the world. I did it in 1:14:13 and finished in 9th in my category. For those who ignored it, the Megavalanche Alpe d’Huez is one of the most famous and not-to-be missed DH marathon. Since 1995, thousands of riders are starting from the Pic Blanc, whether sun shines, it rains or it snows. Its Mass Start at 3330 meters high on the glacier and its finish line in Allemont, 2600 meters down, make it the longest and craziest race in the world!
Information on Alpe d'Huez, the iconic Alpine climb that has regularly shaped the outcome of the Tour de France | Subscribe to Cycling Weekly here: https://www.youtube.com/user/CyclingWeekly1?sub_confirmation=1 The word ‘iconic’ is often over-worked in cycling, but its application to the wiggling climb up Alpe d’Huez is entirely justified, with this fearsome climb set to make its 30th Tour de France appearance in the 2018 edition. The 13.8-kilometres of tarmac slithers its way from Bourg d’Oisans to the ski resort of Alpe d’Huez in the French Alps, navigating 21 hairpin bends along the way. From the air, the road is instantly recognisable – as is its relentless turns and gradient when you are travelling up it or watching a race unfold on its slopes. Although Alpe d’Huez is a regular fix...

Probably the best known climb in the world. Also known as the Hollywood climb. You will be riding from the starting point to the finish line of the official crono course. This iconic route has been used nearly every year by the Tour de France. With the sun baking, the 21 immortal hairpins are not an easy task for anyone. But the satisfaction of getting to the finish line is amazing. You will be joined by other cycling enthusiasts. Some will be faster, others slower. You can adjust the speed in the lower right side of the screen. You can find the climb on Strava: https://www.strava.com/segments/683473 Get updates about new video uploads, our upcoming video based training software and other activities by giving us a ‘like’ or 'follow' on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/biketheworldvide...
Climb of Alpe d'Huez by Matra bike in 38 minutes 40 seconds (bike has electric motor in bottom bracket and battery in bottle cage). http://matra.com/ These bikes be hired all over the Alps and could be a good idea if your wife, girlfriend, dad, kids want to accompany you on a climb but don't have the power to get all the way to the top. A 9 year old girl climbed to the Col de la Bonette on the same model this summer. http://www.ledauphine.com/haute-provence/2013/08/05/a-9-ans-elle-franchit-le-col-de-la-bonnette They can also be used to explore the mountains and countryside leaving the car at home. ps I don't work for Matra, I just borrowed the bike.
